Essay # 8: Effects of Lack of EDUCATION

A 14 year old girl is currently at her second year level in high school. Her family belongs to Class D and not that blessed financially. She had 8 siblings and she is the fifth. Out of them, one must sacrifice to stop her schooling. So the girl sacrificed so that her younger siblings can start studying at the right age. The girl just stayed at home for many years helping her mother to do the chores and other stuff. If you will analyze the situation, what do you think would happen to the girl? And if this case will also happen to others, do you think there will be negative effects specially when you lack knowledge and learning? Lack of education is a serious matter to an individual and to the community. And if it will not be prevented, it may lead to negative effects. Lack of education can result poverty, increase in crime rate and increase the illiteracy rate.

Poverty is one of the most common effect of lack of education of an individual. One who lacks real learning will be poor because when you lack education, there is a possibility that you can’t apply for a job. If you don’t have any job, you don’t have the source of your income. If you don’t have the income, you can provide your basic needs and also your family. And poverty starts here and sometimes tend to minor effects like teenagers might experience early and teenage pregnancy. Poverty is a major effect of lack of education.

Another effect of lack of education is the increase in crime rate in Philippines. This year, our country was considered as one of the countries in the world where crime rate increases yearly. As the status quo, teenagers are very exposed to different types of crime like stealing, drug addiction and murder. In news report nowadays, teenagers  are the main suspects of the crimes. But there is one reason behind that subjected matter and of course that is the lack of education. Teenagers are not taught of the lessons and learning in their everyday lives. If all teenagers will not be taught of true lessons, crime rate will increase not only yearly but daily.

Lastly, is the increase of illiteracy rate. According to yearly records of literacy rate of the Philippines, the country reached a 97 percent literacy rate or the mastery rate of all citizens aging 40 years old and below. However, illiteracy rate is also increasing. From a 35 percent illiteracy rate, it gone up to 75 percent. See how powerful is education in each of us. One teenager who lacks education can already add a 10 percent rate to the statistics of no learning. But do you think that there is a solution for so many effects of this issue?

There are so many solutions for this problem. If we just do our own responsibilities and obligations as a youth. If we just think of the issue in a bigger scale of picture. Sometimes we tend to depend on one side, the government side for what is happening right now. We, ourselves are the ones who are also responsible for this so many problems. Everything will be solved if we just have the HEART for our NATION.

  1. Surely you have a solution for this problem. What is the point in telling us about this problem if you do not have a solution? What does "have heart for our nation" mean?
